Social Security Claim Deadlines

There are many deadlines- denial, hearing and appeals- involved in both Social Security Disability (SSD) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

It is necessary that an appeal be initiated within a specified time period. If you fail to appeal your claim within this time frame, your claim will be dismissed and if you wish to pursue it, you will have to re-file a new application with Social Security and start all over. If you miss the deadline for filing; this can often result in a loss of benefits, particularly back pay. It is very important to observe the deadlines which might be in place for taking certain steps during the disability process.
